How To Prepare Your Business for a Photoshoot

Everyday clean is not always clean enough for a photoshoot.

Here are some tips you may not always think of that must be done PRIOR to the photographer’s arrival, not on the photographer’s time. It is an appointment for photography and cleaning does not begin when the photographer arrives.

EXTERIOR

  • Ensure no vehicles are parked in front of the building or in visible areas.

  • Remove garbage bins, hoses, and other maintenance items.

  • Neatly arrange or store outdoor furniture; remove any toys or clutter.

  • Take down any seasonal decorations, event signage, or dated materials.

  • Remove political signs, realtor signs, or temporary banners.

INTERIOR

  • Turn all lights ON, including lamps (but turn OFF if bulbs are mismatched).

  • Turn all ceiling fans OFF.

  • Open all window coverings to allow natural light (unless the view is distracting).

  • De-clutter all surfaces: remove paperwork, excess decor, boxes, and personal items.

  • Store large countertop items away (e.g., coffee makers, microwaves) where possible.

  • Remove (or request for us to blur) any personal photos or company-sensitive materials.

  • Hide waste bins, cleaning supplies, and any pet-related items.

KITCHEN/BREAK ROOM

  • Clear countertops of small appliances, dish racks, towels, and cleaning products.

  • Remove items on top of the refrigerator or cabinets.

  • Ensure sinks and surfaces are clean and clutter-free.

BATHROOMS

  • Close toilet lids.

  • Put away personal hygiene products, robes, and countertop items.

  • Remove bath mats, garbage cans, and toilet brushes.

STORAGE

  • We typically do not photograph supply closets, storage rooms, or maintenance areas unless requested—use these areas to store excess items out of sight.

  • If decluttering is incomplete, consolidate all remaining items into one non-visible room before the photographer arrives. That room can be photographed last after items are moved.

We do not photograph closets, laundry rooms, or garages unless explicitly requested. These are great places to put your excess items prior to the photoshoot, so they are not in the way.

Final Checklist (Before Photographer Arrives)

  • ☐ All vehicles removed from the front/visible areas (if/when possible)

  • ☐ All lights ON, fans OFF

  • ☐ Space is clean, organized, and clutter-free

  • No occupants or staff present in photographed areas during the session
